Arms Across the Aisle was another project I illustrated for Rootstrikers, an organization dedicated to getting money out of politics. Their Arms Across the Aisle meetups gather both liberals and conservatives and try to find common ground.

Objective: To create a fun, engaging content that reflects the theme of liberals and conservative working together to save their government. On the website, Batman and Robin are played by Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, the original representatives of this country who had opposing views and collaborated to set up this nation.

My role:
Illustration

At Castlight Health, I was a product manager and designer of a web service that enables users to search for doctors and procedures and see costs. When people visit the doctor in the US, they often have no idea how much it will cost—it's like ordering off a restaurant menu with no prices! Castlight calculates estimates from previous medical bills. The prices are personalized based on the users' insurance and where they are in their deductible, so they see what they will actually pay.

Objective: To make the experience of choosing a doctor and dealing with costs as easy as possible.

Design challenges:

Health care literacy. How can users choose the type of MRI they will have when they don't know what an MRI is?
Simplicity vs. transparency. How do we promote price transparency without confusing users with complex calculations?
Time variation. How can we show that the same medical service will cost a different amount later?Lack of information. How can users see the cost for physical therapy services when the therapist determines what they will get (e.g. ice pack, exercise)?
Estimates. How do we set expectations that our prices are only estimates based on data from previous bills?

My role:
Product management
User interface design
Persona development
User research
Visual design
Animation

*I can't post many screenshots online, so please contact me to see a presentation with more of my Castlight work.

What Am I Doing? is a series of visual explanations of how our everyday actions impact our world. My plan is to publish these in a magazine series. These are some excerpts from the bottled water issue. Other topics explored may include driving, eating fish, or buying clothing.

Objective: To show the environmental and social impacts of our everyday actions. By visually showing what happens before and after we do a common activity, I believe we can increase awareness of the connections between us and many of our global challenges.

My role:
Visual design
Content development
